If you're refering to French legislation, such weapons ("armes historiques et de collection") are category #8 and do not require a license or to be declared.

But isn't 8x50R Lebel still considered a military cartridge for gun control purposes in France?

Had to look up that one. Category 8 applies to black powder only, but I'm not all too sure what category those cartdriges should make, they're not really category 1 either as that applies to ammunition of category 1 weapons.

Edit:actually scratch that, those rifles ain't old enough to be category 8.

Yup....8x50R Lebel is a smokeless round, the first ever adopted as a military rifle cartridge. The last French service rifle that would be Cat 8 is the Gras. I learn so much on this site.

Though it's a moot point really as Let has a 91/30 Moisin which definitely isn't a Category 8 weapon. So tell us Letarsier, did it have to be re-chambered to something other than 7.62x54R or what?

Probably purchased it on a "bourse aux armes" where nobody cares about what the bloody law says

Gives me a headache going through it, too complex, too many grey areas, not to mention there is even an explicit list of weapons that are to be considered category 8 beyond those from before 1892.
